It's big. Notice how high up we are? No escalators. There seem to be elevators, but they weren't really available. I think they're reserved for freight and handicapped.
Much of the stadium is covered, but there is an oval opening that lets the sun in. (Click to embiggen!)

The sun is hot. Notice where the shade begins in the seats? That's also where the empty seats end.
We were close to the long jump pits.
They have something like a sand Zamboni to help smooth out the pit after each jumper.
We were also close to the high jump.

For the discus, they have little radio controlled cars to return the discus after throws.
As I think about it, it seems kind of odd. Labor is so cheap the Chinese usually don't care about keeping headcount down. I once had to go through two people to ring up purchasing a Coke. They might as well have had a bucket brigade.
The day before, we ran into a charming couple from London, England. Their daughter, Montell Douglas, was running in the 100 meter. Of course, that meant we had to cheer for her. Here she is coming in second in the first qualifying round. (Unfortunately, she didn't make it past the quarterfinals.)

Do you think they can make one of those little cars fetch cold beer out of a cooler? :)
